Champaign Fire Department responded to a report of a working fire at 503 Chicago Avenue on November 1, 2015 at 9:38 p.m. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered moderate fire conditions on the first floor and in the basement of the structure.
Fire crews deployed multiple hand lines into the structure in an attempt to extinguish the fire. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire that had extended to the first floor, and advanced their hand lines to the basement of the structure. Crews quickly extinguished the main body of fire in the basement of the structure and performed a thorough overhaul to ensure the fire was out. The Champaign Fire Department reminds residents to always have working smoke detectors.
