2015 National Night Out Celebration

The City of Champaign will recognize National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, from 4:00-8:00 p.m.

National Night Out (NNO) is a designated evening when communities across America come together to take a stand against crime. To celebrate the nationwide event, residents are encouraged to lock their doors, turn on their porch lights, and spend the evening outdoors with their neighbors. The City of Champaign has partnered with the Champaign Park District and Registered Neighborhood Groups to host events throughout the community. Neighborhood events will include block parties, entertainment, safety demonstrations and more.

National Night Out is designed to generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and improve relationships between the Champaign Police Department and local residents.

Neighborhood groups and organizations registered with the City of Champaign were given an opportunity to apply for grant funds to host their own National Night Out Celebration in their neighborhoods. Five groups successfully completed grant applications for event funds this year!

In addition, the Champaign Park District is hosting a National Night Out community celebration event in Douglass Park that will run concurrent with the five neighborhood group events on the same night. This will give those who do not have established neighborhood groups or did not apply for the funds, an opportunity to go and celebrate the event.

To find a National Night Out event in the community, please check with your local Neighborhood Watch Group or visit the Champaign Park District’s National Night Out event at Douglass Park from 5-7 p.m.
