CFD Fire Information Report: 2306 S Mattis Ave. Working Fire

Champaign Fire Department responded to 2306 S. Mattis Ave. on February 21, 2015 at 5:02 a.m. for a report of a working fire. Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke emitting from the front door of the structure. While on scene, fire crews were alerted by a resident that someone remained in the structure in a back bedroom. Captain David Boberg and Engineer Jon Jenkins, from Ladder 164 and Firefighter Greg Elliot,from Engine 154, made entry into the structure and found the resident in a bedroom. The resident was removed from the structure and was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene. Fire crews advanced a single hand line to the front of the structure and advanced to the kitchen area. Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire. No injuries to fire personnel were reported. A total of two occupants have been displaced. Champaign Police Department assisted with traffic control. During the fire investigation, it was discovered that there were no working smoke detectors in the residence. The Champaign Fire Department encourages all residents to have working smoke detectors.
