Champaign Police Investigate Campus Attacks

The Champaign Police are investigating a series of aggravated batteries that occurred in the Campus area over the weekend.

Champaign Officers responded to five separate reports on Saturday, October 11, 2014.

  • Second and Chalmers around 3:00 AM
  • 200 block of E. Chalmers around 3:30 AM
  • Sixth and Green, occurred around 3:30 AM
  • South First and Chalmers at around 4:00 AM
  • Locust and Chalmers around 4:00 AM

The victims in the first three incidents reported being attacked by a group of male subjects as they were walking in the area.  The victims reported being punched in the head and then being kicked in the head and body while they were on the ground.  There are a total of four victims and all received visible facial injuries.  Three of the victims were treated for injuries at local medical facilities.

In two of incidents, one victim was hit in the head but ran from the suspects.  In another, the victim ran from the suspects as they yelled at him from a blue colored passenger vehicle.

The victims described the suspects as a group of 6-7 black males, approximately 25 years of age, and wearing dark clothing.  In one of the incidents, the suspects were reported to be in a blue colored sedan and/or some type of SUV.

The Champaign Police are investigating these incidents and would encourage the public to protect themselves as much as possible by traveling in groups when out in the evenings or early mornings and avoid routes that aren’t well lit.
