Champaign Police Make Gun Arrest

On August 18, 2014 Champaign Police Officers responded to a report of a person attempting to steal a bicycle in the 200 Block of East Stoughton.  Officers located an individual matching the suspect’s description a block away and stopped to investigate the reported bicycle theft.

As officers were speaking with the individual they detected a strong odor of cannabis.  Based on this odor, officers searched the individual and his backpack and recovered 45.6 grams of cannabis that was packaged in 22 individual bags for sale.  In addition to the illegal drugs, officers recovered a loaded Glock handgun inside the backpack.

Officers arrested Ashton Adger, age 23, from Bellwood, Illinois for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of over 30 grams of cannabis for delivery and Armed Violence.
