Champaign Police Investigate Shooting

On Monday, June 23, at approximately 7:16 PM, Champaign Police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 2100 W.  White.

Upon arrival, officers located evidence of a shooting and located witnesses who reported seeing a subject shooting from a vehicle at another vehicle. However, no victims or offenders were located at the scene.

Witnesses described one of the vehicles as a tan or gold colored newer model car that was last seen leaving Gramercy Apartments going eastbound on White Street towards Country Fair Drive. The driver of this vehicle was reported to be a black male armed with a handgun and shooting at a white Pontiac.

Officers later located an abandoned white Pontiac in the area of Mattis and Kirby. The vehicle had what appeared to be several areas of damage believed to be bullet holes.

At approximately 8:14 PM, officers were dispatched to Presence Hospital for a report of a 22 year-old male with a gunshot wound to his leg. This individual reported being shot while driving a white Pontiac in the area of Gramercy Apartments.

At this time no arrests have been made. The Champaign Police continue to actively investigate this incident and are looking for the community’s assistance to help solve this crime.
