The Champaign Police Department is currently investigating a shooting incident which occurred Thursday, May 22 at approximately 7:47 p.m. in the 800 block of N. State Street.
Police responded to the area after witnesses reported hearing seven or eight gunshots. Witnesses also reported seeing a red car and a silver car chasing each other while exchanging gunfire. No suspect descriptions were provided.
During the shooting, one house was hit by several of the rounds. However, the male resident who was in the home at the time was not injured. Police do not believe that the resident of the home was the target of the shooting.
Police are currently investigating this incident and will provide updates as they become
available.
