The City of Champaign has awarded a contract to Stark Excavating for the construction of the Washington Street drainage improvements.
This project will consist of constructing a new detention basin and amenities along with an upgraded storm sewer system at the intersection of Washington and Russell Street.
The basin improvements will be complete before the contractor is allowed to begin construction on the new storm sewer to serve Russell Street. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
Excavation was started this week on the detention basin. Detention basin excavation will continue for approximately 1-5 months and will involve the excavation of approximately 30,000 cubic yards of soil.
