IDOT – I-57 Night Bridge Work Closure

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that the night work bridge closure over Interstate 57 is scheduled for July 16, 17 and 18. The scheduled closure of Interstate 57 (between the Monticello Rd exit and the I-72 exit) will begin during the overnight hours of Wednesday July 16th for the purpose of removing the remaining portion of the old bridge.

The schedule is as follows:
Tuesday July 16th 10pm-6am (July 17th) – Closure of I-57 NB/SB with plan detour in place.
Wednesday July 17th 10pm-6am (July 18th) – Closure of I-57 NB/SB with plan detour in place.
Thursday July 18th 10pm-6am (July 19th) – Closure of I-57 NB/SB with plan detour in place.

Further updates may be necessary as we monitor the weather forecast.

The closure is for the bridge carrying Windsor Road over Interstate 57. Interstate traffic will be detoured utillizing Monticello Road, US Route 45 (S. Neil Street), Springfield Avenue (Illinois Route 10), Mattis Avenue and Interstate 72 (Church Street for Westbound, University Avenue for Eastbound) as well as the Interstate 57 / 72 interchange.

The work on Windsor Road itself should be switched to Stage II on or around Friday July 12. Construction traffic on this date will be heavier than normal.

The overall project has an anticipated completion date of November 1, 2013, weather permitting. The contractor for the $2,376,785 project is O’Neil Bros. Construction.

Motorists are advised to slow down, obey posted limits and drive carefully through this and all work zones. Due to the high volume of traffic, motorists may want to consider alternate routes.
