The start of the City of Champaign Police Department’s pharmaceutical drug disposal bin was a huge success. The box was emptied almost ten times! School resource officers Brandon Thomas and Robert Wills have contributed a great amount to the success of this program. The boxes will accept prescription, over-the-counter medicines, and veterinary pharmaceuticals from residents. Illicit drugs, syringes, needles or thermometers will not be accepted. This program will help get pain medications and other drugs that people might abuse out of the house and also protect our waterways by not flushing unwanted pharmaceuticals. This program is a partnership between Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant, City of Urbana, University of Illinois, and Champaign County.
