Garden Hills Clean & Green

Code Compliance Manager David Oliver assisted the United Garden Hills Neighborhood Association kick off their 2013 Clean & Green Program on Saturday, April 13th with a “street sweep”. Volunteers braved the chilly morning temperatures and gathered near the corner of McKinley at Paula. After a brief introduction between neighborhood residents and members of Jericho Missionary Baptist Church, the volunteers cleaned the intersection of McKinley and Paula and continued south to Bradley Avenue. Garden Hills Clean & Green volunteers conduct litter cleanup activities every month on the Saturday prior to their general membership meeting on the third Monday of the month. The goal of the cleanup activities is not only neighborhood beautification through litter removal, but to educate citizens on the benefits of a clean and attractive community and more social interaction amongst neighbors. Everyone that has participated in the events has commented it was an enjoyable experience. The goal is to add additional volunteers each month. The group operates with the slogan, “many hands make light work.”
