IDOT Windsor and I-57 Bridge Construction Starting April 1st

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has announced that starting Monday, April 1, 2013, weather permitting, O’Neil Brothers Construction Company will begin construction work to remove and replace the Windsor Road Bridge over Interstate 57. The new bridge will be wider to accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists on both sides of the structure. Throughout the construction work, one lane of traffic will be maintained on Windsor Road using temporary traffic signals.

There will be times during construction that Interstate 57 will be CLOSED to all traffic to allow the safe removal of old bridge beams and to also set steel beams for the new bridge. The Interstate closures will be limited to Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between the hours of 10 PM and 6 AM. ALL interstate traffic will be detoured through Champaign using Neil Street (US Route 45), Springfield Avenue (IL Route 10), Mattis Avenue, and Church/University to Interstate 57. IDOT will provide notice of the interstate closures 48 to 72 hours prior to the closures. Police and Fire have been informed of the planned interstate closures and the proposed detour route.

IDOT’s construction contract calls for a start date of April 1, 2013, and a final completion date of November 1, 2013. The project construction cost is $2,376,785.
