U of I Quad Day 2012

City of Champaign welcomed thousands of UI students including the Marching Illini, UI basketball players, and incoming freshmen to UI Quad Day from noon to 4 PM on Sunday, August 26.

The City’s Communication Advisory Team organized the City showcase to include staff from Fire, Neighborhood Services, Police, and Public Works answering questions and providing information/handouts on all City Services including an updated City Services Directory, Feed the Thing and recycling information/handouts; a guide to parties, parking and property maintenance; City street maps and resources regarding the students’ personal fire safety and first aid.

Quad Day features over 500 student organizations and a limited number of university departments and community non-profit agencies whose services benefit the students who attend. The City of Champaign Public Communication Plan 2010-15, Citizen Engagement section identifies Quad Day as one of four community events in which the City will provide representation. The additional three events include STAR Awards Night, National Night Out, and C-U Days.

Once the UI’s Marching Illini Band passed, the City’s table was swamped. Students flocked to learn how the City could assist them with needs as diverse as parking passes, crime watches, as well as many ‘thank-yous’ for all that City staff provides.

It was a rewarding and exhausting day!
