August Campus Move Out/Move In Recycle and Reuse Event

As the summer apartment transition begins at the University of Illinois, the City of Champaign and local non-profits are partnering together for their annual Campus Move Out /Move In Recycle and Reuse Event on Monday, August 6, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. located at 201 E. Green Street in Champaign.

The goal of this event is to provide students living in multifamily buildings; fraternities, sororities, and private certified housing the opportunity to donate unwanted items. The campus location was chosen to provide convenience for these residents moving out in August to bring items they no longer want or need, such as non-perishable food items, household items including furniture, appliances, electronics, backpacks, clothing, artwork, books, and CDs. These items are normally in good or working condition or recyclables that don’t fit in their ‘Feed the Thing’ carts. “This helps reduce the amount of materials entering the waste stream and supports the local non-profit agencies” explains Leslie Mitchell, Environmental Inspector with City of Champaign’s Neighborhood Services Department.

This event is for campus residents only. Champaign residents not in the City’s multifamily recycling program should contact their garbage hauler for more information about the curbside recycling collection service that is available to them at no additional cost. Residents can also donate household items by dropping items off or by calling to arrange a pickup at any of the retail store locations below:

University YMCA Dump and Run – 337-1500 (Pick up available May and Mid-August)

Habitat Restore – 819-5118

Salvation Army Thrift Store – 373-7825
