Lights Dimmed at Hill Street Parking Deck

Following a complaint from a resident about light pollution from the parking deck, staff was able to work with the deck operator to quickly reprogram the lights to minimize the impact on neighbors. Each ramp has three rows of lights – one over the traffic lane, and one over each row of parking spaces. The lights over parking spaces on the perimeter of the deck were turned off. Staff inspected the deck at night to be sure this did not result in inappropriately low lighting levels, which could lead to safety concerns for parking deck customers. The lighting level appears to be adequate, and no complaints have been received after more than a week. The neighbors are very pleased with the change. The current plan is to continue with the reduced lighting level, and reevaluate if concerns are raised.
