The Champaign Human Relations Commission Retreat was held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the I Hotel and Conference Center from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
The meeting was facilitated by Commission Chair, Mark Aber. Mr. Aber began the retreat by allowing each Commissioner time to review their commitments and interests in the Human Relations Commission. This time also allowed members to discuss potential barriers to their work as Commissioners.
The Commissioners then reviewed the City of Champaign’s Human Rights Ordinance to review the purpose of their roles and responsibilities as Commissioners. During this time, the Commissioners dedicated time to gaining a better understanding of the Ordinance as it pertains to their goals and annual tasks.
The Commissioners concluded the retreat by discussing special projects they would like to work on during 2012 and mapping out the next steps necessary to make these projects successful.
