Police Investigate Hit & Run Accident

On July 8, 2010, at approximately 4:06 p.m., Champaign Police officers responded to the 500 block of Alabama for report of a hit and run accident.

Witnesses report seeing a sports utility vehicle strike a six year-old girl and flee the scene of the accident. Police are currently attempting to locate the vehicle, which was last seen last seen heading southbound on Harris Avenue.

The vehicle is described as a dark green sports utility vehicle, possibly a GMC Yukon or Ford Explorer model with lumber extending from the rear driver’s side window.

The driver is described as a white male, 40’s, blue t-shirt blue jeans dark hair with a full beard.

The victim, who was reported by witnesses, as being conscious and breathing at the scene of the accident was transported to Carle hospital. The status of her condition is unavailable at this time.
